Before moving on from Moss Landing, we made a return trip to Capitola, still hoping to visit the wine bar that was unexpectedly closed the last time we were in town. No luck this time either; they had a sign on the door indicating that they would open 2 hours later than the time posted on their website. We decided to concede defeat and went to lunch down the road, at a highly recommended place right on the water.
The photos below were taken from the upstairs balcony of Pete’s Capitola, as we enjoyed a lovely lunch. The colorful buildings and the inlet were to our right, the ocean was directly in front of us, and the trees and houses on the hill were just across the street behind us. Nothing like being surrounded by beauty.

During our stay in Moss Landing, it seemed like the sun only peaked out from behind the cloud cover when we were at least 15 miles away from our RV Park. It appears that the much of the coastal area around Monterey Bay remains shrouded in clouds and fog from early evening until mid to late morning the next day, at least in July and August. Just a few miles inland, this is not so much the case.
The photos below illustrate what I mean; we went to the beach for a few hours in the afternoon, in an area called Seaside which is just north of Monterey. As you can see, the clouds hovered on the horizon even as the sun was shining; I sat on the beach and watched as they slowly drifted back inland over the course of the afternoon.

I promise there will be many more beach pictures in the days ahead; maybe even some in which the sun is shining. But it may be a week or more until we get there. And sorry too about the lack of a zoom lens; I hope to get one for the new camera very soon. Until then, we’ll just have to get by with the long view on things.
On our last day in Moss Landing, I made the trek down to Monterey to pick up some wine at Taste of Monterey. This is a wonderful tasting room on the second floor of the main building at Cannery Row, overlooking Monterey Bay. This tasting room represents more than 50 small wine producers in Monterey County, so its a great place to sample wines from the entire region in one place. I purchased a case of wine, ate some tri-tip nachos, and watched the sailboats pass by my window. It was quite relaxing.
The photos below: first, my table by the window at Taste of Monterey. Second, the view from my table of sailboats on Monterey Bay.

From Moss Landing, we headed just about 9 miles south to Marina Dunes RV Park, a little closer to Monterey and Pacific Grove, and within walking distance of a rather isolated stretch of beach. It a bit of a pricey park, so our stay was just a few days. But we did some cool stuff, as you will see.

I MUST visit Pete’s Capitola some day!
